An atheist group has launched a national campaign to encourage people to sit out of the Pledge of Allegiance until the phrase “under God” is removed from it.
The Pledge of Allegiance, our National motto, the National anthem and our currency all acknowledge God. America’s rich history of faith is inscribed on the walls of our U.S. Capitol and numerous national monuments. There is ample evidence of the integral role prayer, faith in God and Judeo-Christian principles are to our Constitutional Republic in Washington D.C. and state capitals across America.
Although we have the upper hand, if we remain silent these groups will gain ground by setting precedents through frivolous court cases, changing laws and convincing the next generation otherwise. President Ronald Reagan said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”
